MASSAPEDIA NEWS - A study found that women tend to need more sleep than men because the brain is complex. The researchers found that women take sleep 20 minutes longer than men, since women's brains work harder during the day.

Studies conducted in the UK have tested 210 participants consisting of men and women at midlife.

"One of the primary functions of sleep is to allow time for repairs on the brain," said the study's author, Jim Horne, as reported by the Independent.

Horne who also served as Director of the Center for Research and Sleep Research at Loughborough University was also explained that during sleep, part of the cortex in the head to stop connected to the nerve.
