Detecting Asteroid, Russia Use Robot Telescope

MASSAPEDIA NEWS - Without a robotic telescope, a team of astronomers from the Moscow State University led by scientist Vladimir Lipunov will not be able to find a giant asteroid which, according to them gliding close to Earth and potentially harmful to the planet.

The telescope is named MASTER (Mobile Astronomy Telescope System of Robots) were placed in the Caucasus Mountains, Russia, adjacent to the city of Kislovodsk, where the first time an asteroid was named 2014 UR116 visible.

Besides there, Russia also puts MASTER near the city of Moscow, near the city of Irkutsk, and near Ekaterinburg.

This automated robotic telescopes used to observe the asteroid by taking lots of pictures constantly. The main telescope diameter of 355 mm.

This telescope is the result of the Russian government's cooperation with major universities. MASTER has so far identified two potentially hazardous asteroid to planet Earth, namely 2013 and 2013 UG1 SW24 which has a diameter of 250 meters and 125 meters.

In the process, MASTER capture images with the white light into a core element in the shooting as well as the system's asteroid so that the telescope can predict the direction of movement and orbit the asteroid.

Telescopes originally created to detect gamma-ray bursts and solar light has a camera with a very broad frame coverage of up to 50 x 60 degrees. In fact, far more comprehensive picture coverage a satellite in space.

All MASTER system is able to operate automatically by following the solar cycle (day and night) and weather conditions. The telescope can also be moving constantly so it can detect moving objects such as asteroids and their orbits.

Fourth MASTER system placed in four places can be connected through the Internet so as to accelerate the process of sharing information from the control room.

So far, Russia is developing a technology that is similar to the MASTER telescope. This was done because the Russian government hopes robotic telescopes can continue to provide valuable information to people through non-stop monitoring performed this robotic telescopes.
