Gianni Infantino has Been Chosen as the New President of FIFA


Football Confederation Secretary General of the European Union, Gianni Infantino, was elected new president of FIFA Sepp Blatter replace the 2016-2019 period. In the second round, Infantino get 115 votes, while closest rival, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, only get 88 voices.

Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein get four votes, while Jerome Champagne zero noise.

Under the rules of the presidential election, the candidate who won a majority (more than 50 percent of the vote) in the second round will be declared the winner. There are a total of 207 voices contested by limiting the number of candidates who won Infantino deemed to have qualified.

Elections should proceed to the second round because there are no qualified candidates winners in the first round, which is getting two-thirds of the total vote.

Once elected, Infantino looks emotional when delivering a victory speech.

"We have to be proud of the FIFA and proud of what we will do together. FIFA has gone through periods of sadness, times of crisis. Those days are over. We will restore the image of FIFA," said Infantino.

Two Rounds

FIFA runs two rounds of elections in the first round after no candidate won a two-thirds majority as a condition could be declared to be the winner. Infantino get a total of 88 votes in the first round, while Sheikh Salman 85 votes, Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein 27 votes, and Jerome Champagne seven votes.

Tokyo Sexwale was supposed to be the fifth candidate has resigned after delivering the vision and mission in front of Congress.

In FIFA's election, Sheikh Salman himself to get support from the Asian confederation (AFC) and Africa (CAF). Meanwhile, Infantino is supported by the European (UEFA) and South America (CONMEBOL).
